School to School Support
Our Teaching School is committed to ensuring that the School to School Support programme serves the need of our locality and contributes to a school self-improvement model. We will seek to challenge underachievement through a values-driven approach.
With a focus on improving student outcomes and longer term school development, as well as supporting schools facing particular challenges, we are well placed to support you in ensuring that your school improvement and professional development work is both high impact and sustainable.
We can provide the following to deliver support:
• National Leaders of Education (NLE) - Outstanding serving Headteachers who can provide additional leadership capacity to schools facing transition or challenging circumstances.
• Specialist Leaders of Education (SLE) - Outstanding Middle and Senior Leaders, covering a wide range of subjects, who have the skills to support individuals or teams in similar positions in other schools.
School Direct
Why Choose School Direct?
‘Real’ teacher experience and academic rigour combined
School Direct is a school-based approach to teacher training, which in many ways mirrors the life of a ‘real’ teacher, as you are based in school from the very start of the training and for the majority of the course.
The School Direct training with Bristol Redcliffe Open Interchange runs alongside existing PGCE and undergraduate programmes so that, when you successfully complete the course, you are awarded a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE with QTS) with the opportunity to attain additional Masters’ credits.
What is Redcliffe Open Interchange?
Bristol Redcliffe Open Interchange provides school-based training for aspirational trainee teachers who are seeking the very best training supported by an outstanding University. In partnership with the University of Bristol, we provide the opportunity for trainees to access a bespoke professional development programme that draws upon educational research and the expertise of practising outstanding educational leaders and teachers.
Schools within the partnership include five diverse, large, urban secondary schools, each with a distinctive ethos and individual areas of expertise to offer trainee teachers. We also work in partnership with Primary schools. We are not the largest partnership of schools and, as a result, we can regulate the consistency and quality of the School Direct offer across our schools more easily.
What will you get from Redcliffe Open Interchange School Direct?
We offer excellent teacher training
St Mary Redcliffe and Temple Secondary school is the lead school within Bristol Redcliffe Open Interchange and, in its role as a Teaching School, has a proven track record of outstanding teacher development. We offer personalised, one to one mentoring and coaching that supports you in developing as a reflective practitioner. You will be assigned a subject specialist mentor and will have support from an experienced school leader in the field of initial teacher education. There is access to Specialist Leaders in Education who will support you in your training and development too. The most effective professional learning happens when time is provided for collaborative learning and reflection. Consequently, we have designed the course with the University of Bristol so that there is time to study your subject specialism with peers at the University and time to develop your skills within the school setting. A significant amount of training will be led by the University of Bristol. This is a Masters level qualification and you will be required to complete research assignments as part of the course (and for the PGCE award)
